Languages

Mekniy goes by the informal title “land of a thousand languages.” Three are official: Nissiian, Czech (the everyday language across both nations, given their location in the Czech Republic), and English, used in the wider micronational community and in international diplomacy.

Recognised minority languages are Upper Loringian, Esagitian, Plebeian, Thornian, Vietnamese and Ukrainian.

The Boyoheum Family

All the constructed languages of Mekniy-Lurk belong to the Boyoheum branch, which originated in the Mekniyan cultural sphere. Nissiian is the most widely used and best documented, but the family includes Jesenian, Loringian, Esagitian, Thornian, Menders, Konissian, Bohujils and Plebeian, among others. Loringian developed specifically in Lurk and is used mainly in official Lurkish documents.

For a full account of Nissiian grammar, script and history, see the Nissian page.

Language Technology

The Naraeji portal provides two main language tools. NTranslator handles machine translation between Nissiian, English, Czech, Korean, Moravian, Loringian, Thornian, Esagitian, Plebeian, Bobanian, Konissian, Menders, Bohujils, French and more, using the NLanguageKit API (Naraeji Boyoheum NLP and Naraeji Yandex CTR engines). NLanguageCenter is a dictionary covering all Boyoheum languages. NLanguageKit can also generate paper dictionaries.

Language in Diplomacy

Since the Kingdom of Nissi era, Mekniyan cultural diplomacy has occasionally involved requiring counterpart states to adopt Nissiian as an official language. The treaty granting a portion of Mekniyan territory to the KNM is one example where Nissiian became a condition of the agreement.
