Mekniy-Lurk is a representative democracy, a federation, and a Mekkism — a type of constitutional monarchy unique to Mekniy, built on the principles of Vvakeist philosophy. Legislative, executive, and judicial powers are separated, with the usual checks and balances between them.

The Mēk

The head of state is the Mēk, currently Praeniy Naemal Seok, who also serves as the nation’s chief religious figure in the Vvakeist tradition. Day-to-day governance is not the Mēk’s concern — the position is largely ceremonial in practice — but the powers assigned to it are real and occasionally used. Signing treaties with other micronations and sitting as a constitutional judge are the Mēk’s most frequent duties. The Mēk also chairs the court of last resort.

The Kaae

The Kaae is the deputy head of state, currently Rāvenssae Kxaiji (Karl Friedrich). When the Mēk is unavailable, the Kaae steps in; when both are present at a diplomatic meeting, both sign together as joint heads of state. The position was originally elected, but under the current constitution the Mēk appoints the Kaae directly — with the expectation that the role will generally go to a Lurkish citizen, giving Lurk a presence at the top of the state.

The Senate

The Senate is the unicameral legislature, with 9 seats. Citizens elect it every six months, after electoral campaigns that tend to be notably competitive by Czech community standards. The Senate appoints the Governor, who is the effective head of government, represents the nation externally, and chairs Senate sessions. A vote of no confidence can remove both the Governor and the government.

The Green Party dominated early Mekniyan politics, before a new wave of citizens shifted things toward social democracy and then, more recently, toward the Independents and Conservatives. The current government is led by the Conservative Party, with Siwil Ara-den (Albert Flinkmann) as Governor.

Judiciary

The legal system follows the Anglo-American common law tradition, with court precedent applied alongside laws passed by the Senate. Common law varies by state. Three levels of court exist: the Federal Constitutional Court Mēkkxu at the top, then the Court of Appeal Mēkkxu, and state courts at the lowest level. Lawyers and judges require legal education; the Mēk is the sole exception, chairing the highest court by constitutional role. Judges are appointed with Senate and Mēk consent. The courts have rarely been needed — one notable case has involved the expulsion and subsequent re-admission of a citizen.

IVS STEMMA

Elections, referenda, citizenship records, licenses, permits, and company registrations are all handled through the IVS STEMMA e-government platform, which Mekniy-Lurk has also made available to other Czech micronations.
