Diplomacy
Diplomacy has been a defining feature of both nations since their earliest days, though each arrived at it differently. Lurk built its reputation on neutrality and elaborate formal documentation — it started the Czech tradition of lengthy treaties establishing mutual relations. Mekniy’s style leaned toward cultural engagement: some agreements have required the counterpart to adopt Nissian as an official language, including a treaty granting a portion of Mekniyan territory to the KNM. Both approaches continue to inform how Mekniy-Lurk conducts its foreign affairs.
The country has maintained workable relations even with micronations that were controversial during Czech community disputes, and has offered itself as neutral ground for diplomatic meetings between parties in conflict. Mekniy is a full member of the Grand Unified Micronational and signed the Micronational Declaration on Ecological Stewardship. Lurk’s membership in the Antarctic Micronational Union lapsed through inactivity; rejoining has been discussed.
Relations with Austenasia were formalised at the Midsummer Micronational Meeting in London in July 2022, where a Mekniyan delegate met with representatives of the Empire. Earlier, in a separate summit in London, the Kaae Rāvenssae Kxaiji (Karl Friedrich) met Emperor Jonathan I to sign a treaty of mutual recognition. Commemorative Corona coins were presented to Jonathan I and Gyḿnasium State head Tomáš Falešník in 2022.
In Lurk, the first day diplomatic contact was ever made — the day after the nation’s founding, when Lurk reached out to Flatland — is observed as Diplomacy Day, a national holiday.
