Mekniy
Myths and Legends
Mekniyan tradition opens with the world as an endless lake, watched over by the god Deahwitēr. Two figures swim there: the beautiful Sercesba, and the ugly, acne-faced Kyeoriba, three-horned and red-eyed, who swims with her snake Burhagae. On Burhagae’s advice, Kyeoriba sneaks up behind Sercesba and shouts bisolesseonī Pxīcheīn!! in her ear. The shock makes Sercesba’s heart beat for the first time. She is then escorted by the manticore Mossaesa to the heavens, where Deahwitēr, Mēnshis, Sŋbeal and others sit. As all this happens, the earth forms inside Sercesba’s liver, white and pure. Travelling from liver to heart, it throws up a small bump on its surface — Ilbun Hill.
Several thousand years on, the first Nakāl, Hanunkx, is born on the island of Pxintyaē. His son Mekniy follows 21 years later. A third Nakāl, Keopedi, descends from cloud, dispatched by Deahwiter, and is taken by Mēnshis to live beneath Ilbun. Hanunkx and Mekniy, meanwhile, end up as warlords serving under the tyrant Emperor Cxeunodd. When they can bear it no longer, Hanunkx prays to Keopedi in secret, who tells him the way out: flee to Ilbun Hill. Mekniy covers their escape by warning Cxeunodd of a phantom invasion to the north. The party travels for a week and five days before Cxeunodd’s army catches up. Hanunkx prays to Sŋbeal, who burns the army to nothing. Twenty-six years later, the travellers arrive among rocks below a hill trailing a great vortex, where they are reunited with Keopedi.
Part of the retinue settles at Sanbang, south of a Boii oppidum, eventually merging with Beurgila to form what becomes Yeoju. The other part stays beneath Ilbun, founding Gaokxa and the province of Ilbunila — the territory known today as Tajibandmida.
Modern History
Short-lived states appeared in the Mekniy territory from 2008, but the first to endure was the Kingdom of Nissi, declared independent on 20 September 2009. In 2012 it was renamed the First Mekniyan Republic, a name combining Mek and Nissi, the latter tied historically to Tajibandmida.
By 2014, Mekniy had forged ties with the Esagitian Empire and reorganised as the Mekniyan Federation, which became one of the founding members of the Union of Micronations of Central Europe. The territory of what is now Aseula was annexed by the end of that year. In early 2015 Mekniy joined the Coronese Confederation, where the common Corona currency took shape, the STEMMA system was started, and Nissian was standardised for the first time. Esagitia broke off as an independent empire during this period.
The Confederation collapsed the following year. The successor Mekniyan Mekkism adopted new state symbols and then annexed Esagitia back — triggering a one-day civil war that split Mekniy into separate republics. These entered the second Coronese entity, the United Coronese Provinces.
In August 2017, the Gonoxi Plan Council declared independence from Corona, establishing a fresh Mekkism. Two constitutions followed in quick succession; the third, establishing the United States of Mekniy, was ratified in December 2018. Mekniy was largely quiet after that until 2020, when Lurk joined and elections were held for the first time in two years.
Lurk
Prehistory
The area that would become Redwood City had its first brush with micronationalism in 2005, when Alex White’s family put together an informal one-day nation, with relatives assigned to a rather over-staffed set of ministries. In 2008, White took part in a friend’s geofictional project — renamed local geography, an original language loosely related to Czech — and that experience left a lasting mark on what Lurk would become.
LurkSAR and the Lurk Republic (2011)
On 25 June 2011, Lurk was founded as LurkSAR, a socialist state in the Lurk Hills area, claiming only uninhabited land. It appeared first on the YouTube micronational community, and the very next day made contact with the micronation of Flatland. Through Flatland, Lurk found MicroWiki that summer. In community disputes Lurk stayed neutral, attempting to mediate rather than take sides. Within a day of founding, LurkSAR reformed as the Lurk Republic.
Lurk Federation (2012)

When the YouTube community collapsed, Lurk reorganised as the Lurk Federation, taking in Acrest and roughly doubling its territory. January 2012 brought a new flag, a Germanic cultural turn, and Lurk’s first (and briefest) constitution. The President’s office was abolished in favour of the Prime Minister, but the nation fell into deep inactivity, cycling through various unions and short-lived arrangements. At several points Lurk considered simply dissolving and declaring an independent City State of Redwood instead.
Noble Republic of Lurk (2013)
Major constitutional reform in 2013 produced the Noble Republic of Lurk, with a reduced territory, restored state symbols, and an adapted version of the 1920 Czechoslovak constitution that added direct democracy alongside a representative system. Lurk found the Czech micronational community in January 2014, encountering the State of Moravia and quickly building the network of relations and joint projects that eventually became the Union of Micronations of Central Europe.
Coronese Confederation (2015)
On 10 April 2015, President Alex White and his Mekniyan counterpart sat down to look at how two nations already sharing a monetary union and constant technological exchange might work more closely together. The talks led to the Coronese Confederation — the first formal union of Lurk and Mekniy. It lasted only a few months before dissolving, and Lurk went independent again, briefly joining Mercia in 2019 before the final union with Mekniy in 2020.
Mekniy-Lurk
The 2020 Senate elections ended in a three-way tie between Conservatives, Greens and Independents. A Conservative-Independent government was formed and carried out an administrative reform. The formal unification happened in 2021 at the Summit at Redwood, where Lurk joined Mekniy as a constituent nation. A commission was set up to work through the integration of Lurk’s extensive legal code, and early drafts of a new constitution began circulating.
The first batch of minted Corona coins was distributed in 2021 to close members of Mekniy-Lurk, with further coins going in 2022 to heads of state including Tomáš Falešník of the Gymnasium State and Emperor Jonathan I of Austenasia. A delegate from Mekniy attended the Midsummer Micronational Meeting in London in July 2022, where formal bilateral relations with Austenasia were concluded. Government activity slowed later that year after the Green Party’s election victory and a general quietening across the Czech community.
