The manticore, national animal

Mekniy’s national symbols include the flag of Takiniyi; the Mossaesassal coat of arms, whose central figure is the mythical manticore Mossaesa (the creature that escorted Sercesba to the heavens in the creation legend); and the Mekssal and Mekkatēcha heraldic variations. The national anthem is Ēguka and the motto Nney esta ineul asx — “It’s only in us.” The national dish is bulyeoki, the national animal the manticore. Federal states may declare their own additional symbols.

Media

Mekniy’s public broadcasters are MBS (Mekniyan Broadcasting Service) and Art Dŋyodaek, with the semi-public SBC Dŋyodaek and Sēk (Shinsegye Broadcasting Company) alongside them. The service traces back to 2008, when a single channel, later named Nissi TV, broadcast news, telenovelas and student films. It passed through various renamings — NT1, NT2, NT3, then CCT (Coronese Central Television) during the Confederation years — and extended to Lurk in 2015 via what is now YZLU-TV MBS Lurk. An automated online television station was tested in 2021, though its individual programmes were never completed.

Cuisine

Mekniyan cooking was shaped by Czech and German cuisine, then drifted in its own direction — lighter, reflecting the Krkonoše foothills region’s historically modest conditions. The national dish, bulyeoki, is thinly sliced meat roasted with vegetables over fire or (more commonly today) in oil with garlic. Standard varieties: porkrusēībulyeoki (pork, cabbage and carrots, often pickled), ssohwabsēībulyeoki (beef, root vegetables and wine — also called Rēgsmēmsŋm), and nyeokerkoēībulyeoki (chicken with fresh vegetables). Jinābeulyeoki goes the Chinese route; mexikeobulyeoki brings heat. Garlic (oluon), onions (keopon), wheat (bbareun) and flour (meleobomeun) are the kitchen staples. Apples (ābelleon), pears (shyaepkon) and strawberries (dalhen) feature heavily in Mekniyan cooking as well.

Mekniy’s own genre is MekPop: Nissian lyrics, Chinese and other East Asian instruments, social commentary, and an esoteric streak drawn from musical Dadaism. Active artists include Prdusa, Kněžbull, Halüna and Bublanka. Prdusa has published several singles and one album, available on Spotify.

Language

Mekniy goes by the informal title “land of a thousand languages.” The Boyoheum branch of constructed languages originated here, with Nissiian as its best-known member — related to Thornian, Menders and Jesenian. In Lurk, Loringian developed separately as a regional language, used mainly in official documents. See the Nissian and Languages pages.

Nature

Conservation has been a core commitment of both nations since Lurk’s founding. Lurk’s national birds are the osprey and the pallid harrier. Mekniy signed the Micronational Declaration on Ecological Stewardship. Multiple national parks protect landscapes in both states: Lurk has Lurkské Krkonoše, Lurkské kopce, Poneksko and Lorynsko; Mekniy’s informal parks are currently being formalised by the Senate.
